How do I remove dust containing PBDE from my room?
Hi, I used to have a mattress and couch in my room which contained PBDE as the fire retardant. PBDE has been linked with growth and hormone problems and I'm only 15, so I need to get rid of all the particles. I have a HEPA vacuum cleaner, so that's perfect, but my question is will just wipe the dusty surfaces in my room (e.g. the bed, skirting boards, desk, shevles) with a wet cotton rag remove these PBDE particles aswell?

Yes, dusting with a damp cloth will pick up the loose particles from solid surfaces. Rinse the cloth regularly for maximum efficiency. Vacuuming should take care of the rest. Keep in mind that you will have to vacuum and dust a number of times to remove everything.

For what it's worth, the power rating (motor amperage ) has little to do with how much suction a vacuum cleaner has. An Oreck machine, for example, only has a 4 amp motor, yet it has as more suction than the average cheap, leaky Walmart vacuum that has a 12 amp motor.
