Eureka Vacuum Cleaners - Lightweight Upright Vacuum Cleaners
Unlike like other brands, Eureka only makes vacuum cleaners and Eureka can claim to make some of the best upright vacuum cleaners on the market today. Despite heavy competition Eureka vacuum cleaners remain best sellers, which many consumers consider to be a top rated vacuum. As well as making amongst the best uprights, Eureka also make some of the most lightweight of upright vacuum cleaners.
Eureka was founded in the Detroit, Michigan in 1909 and the Eureka vacuum cleaner is now a popular vacuum both in America and 44 other countries. Eureka is famed for its iconic upright vacuum and many consumers consider a Eureka to be the best upright vacuum cleaner you can buy. But not only does Eureka make some of the best upright vacuums, they also make some of the lightest upright vacuum cleaners.
The Eureka Model 96D weighs only 5lbs. The Eureka 96D is a cordless/rechargeable unit, which combined with its lightweight construction, makes it easy to use in those difficult-to-get-at places. It's also bagless with an easy to empty dust cup. Whilst it may not be as powerful as other uprights, it does convert into a hand-held vacuum and can be walled mounted. Its real selling point is the fact that the 96D is cordless.
The flagship of the Eureka lightweight upright vacuum cleaners range is the Model 437AZ vacuum cleaner. It weighs in at only 11.8lbs, making it lighter than a comparable Dyson vacuum. It features the distinctive Comfort Grip Handle. A Dyson Cyclone vacuum can claim to have better suction - especially as the dust compartment fills - but the Eureka compensates by using the Power Paw with Risor Visor. This is a hand-held attachment that uses a power brush roll to suck up deep down dirt and pet hair. Eureka claim that the Power Paw and Risor Visor can remove more dust - and safely - than other vacuum cleaners, and can also be used vertically to clean upholstery and curtains. As you would expect from a top rated upright vacuum cleaner it comes with a HEPA filter to prevent over 99% of dust being blown back into your home.
But if you really want to buy the lightest upright vacuum cleaner on the market, then the Eureka 166DX vacuum is for you. It weighs an incredibly light 3.6lbs! The 166DX features a telescopic handle, easy-to-empty dust cup, 15ft cord, and crevice tool. Admittedly, the Eureka 166DX vacuum cleaner isn't designed to clean large houses, but it's ideal for cleaning small apartments. Also, if moving a vacuum cleaner up and down stairs is not for you, you might consider buying a Eureka 166DX for using just in the basement or upstairs. The Eureka is the most lightweight of upright vacuum cleaners.
What's nice about Eureka lightweight upright vacuums is that each model offers something different, whether it be cordless and rechargeable, wall mounted, lightweight but with HEPA filter, or versatile by converting to a hand-held vacuum. Also, for their size and weight, each Eureka vacuum cleaner comes with lots of power, making Eureka lightweight vacuums among the best.

Review Of The Eureka 4700a Maxima Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner
I wanted an inexpensive but reliable vacuum cleaner with decent suction power. Eventually I bought the Eureka Maxima Bagless vacuum cleaner. Buying something cheap, and hoping that it performs as promised, is usually only going to end in disappointment. Well, buying the Eureka Maxima vacuum didn't end in disappointment, although there are some disappointments with it.
Well, seeing the Eureka 4700A for the first time was a little disappointing. It looked exactly like what it was supposed to be; a fairly average looking inexpensive vacuum cleaner. Still, I chose it, not the other way round.
It's cheap but you do get some accessories; brush, cleaning wand, combination wand/crevice tool, and the suction hose which is attached to the unit. The hose is only about 6 feet long though you can stretch it a little further than that, but since it is all plastic, I would not take it too far.
The Eureka Maxima vacuum cleaner does have some real plus points. First off, it is a very lightweight vacuum, weighing in at only 13.5 lbs. It's light but it still comes with a 12 amp motor - the same size as the very expensive Electrolux Oxygen 3 upright vacuum cleaner. Some people really hate bagless vacuum cleaners as they say that emptying the dust cup releases a plume of dirt back into the house. I find such thoughts a little tedious; why not simply empty the dust cup outside? The big advantages of a bagless vacuum cleaner like the Eureka Maxima is that the duct cup is larger than bags - 3 quarts compared to 2 quarts, so it needs less emptying; you save on the cost of buying new bags (not to mention the hassle of finding the correct ones for your vacuum); and your helping to save the environment (no trees need die to make more disposable vacuum bags).
Because of the size of the motor, I found the suction power of the Eureka Maxima to be more than adequate for my house; I have a mixture of low-pile fitted carpet and tiled floors. So, I can't say I've tested it on anything arduous but for most floor types the Maxima copes easily.
Now, for some more gripes.
I don't like how the power cord winds up on the machine. The cord wraps around about a 1-foot area on the lower part of the handle, stuffed in between the suction hose. This is a little awkward. One redeeming feature though is the quick-release lever for the power cord; one flip and you don't have to unwind it!
Also, there's the problem of the suction hose: it's routed quite tightly up around the top of the handle and seems to be made of thin plastic (only time will tell if it goes the distance). It does seem to me that the power cord should be at the top of the handle with the suction hose being housed lower down.
I had no other complaints with my Eureka Maxima vacuum cleaner, until that is, I called round my friends' house and saw them use their Electrolux Aptitude vacuum cleaner. The Aptitude was much, much quieter than my Eureka Maxima. I've since consoled myself with the thought that their Electrolux vacuum cleaner was also much, much more expensive, than my inexpensive, reliable, light, Eureka Maxima vacuum cleaner.

Review Of The Eureka Optima Vacuum Cleaner
Don't let the size or lightweight feel of the bagless Eureka Optima vacuum cleaner fool you. Despite its compact size it packs a lot of cleaning power. Its lightweight construction also means that this upright is easy to use than other upright vacuums.
Let's start by looking at the handle of the Optima vacuum cleaner. The Optima's handle is looped; a design feature that makes it instantly recognisable as a Eureka vacuum cleaner. But the looped handle does serve a purpose other than making the vacuum stand out as a Eureka vacuum; it's adjustable to more than eight different heights and the looped design makes using the vacuum easier to use at all angles.
The Eureka Optima is also a bagless vacuum. Bagless vacuum cleaners divide consumers; some love them whilst others hate them with a passion. Getting hold of Eureka dust bags can be difficult and expensive. With the bagless Optima you won't have to worry about finding the right bags. Despite its compact size the Optima vacuum cleaner uses a full size dirt cup and comes with a pleated filter. The filter can be washed up to 6 times before it needs to be replaced.
But what about the suction power of the Eureka Optima lightweight vacuum cleaner? Well, the vacuum punches above its weight and out performs many competitors that are heavier in construction. However, it does have its limitations. If you want truly amazing suction power then you're probably better off with a Dyson vacuum cleaner or an Electrolux model. But for its weight the Optima can't be faulted on suction power.
The Eureka Optima comes with an on/off brush roll switch as you would expect from a quality vacuum. The simple to use switch makes vacuuming carpets, hardwood, vinyl and tiled floors a breeze. Also, the bottom of the cleaner has a line of rubber behind the brush roll that helps keep dirt from being blown around on hard surface floors.
Just as important as the vacuum are the tools that come with it. The Eureka Optima hose is clear so you can where any blockages that might occur. The hose is also made from crush-resistant plastic. The Optima comes with a stair cleaning handle.
Many upright vacuum cleaners tend to tip over very easily. Eureka has thought about this and has designed the Optima so that it doesn't easily tip over. Even when using the tools the vacuum doesn't tip. This is because the hose attachment is low on the body of the vacuum.

Eureka are well known for their range of upright vacuum cleaners; the Optima being their lightweight model. Eureka vacuum cleaners aren't cheap and there may be better upright models available but few vacuums in the weight category can match the cleaning power Eureka Optima.
