Dyson Hepa Filter

Cleaning the Dyson DC20 Vacuum cleaner.?

Its the 6 month mark and time to clean the filter on the Dyson. The filter is easy to clean with the visual instructions, but we bought the higher end model that also contains a secondary HEPA filter to filter out fine dust. It says on the filter lifetime permanent HEPA filter. Do I need to clean this because the bottom of it has a very black thin dirt layer. Also can I run the clear plastic bin and cyclonic chamber (the orange part) under water to clean off the fine gray dust? Thank you.
